I hadn’t been back since my company relocated, but I finally made it—and I’m happy to say it’s just as good as I remember. This place used to be my go-to lunch spot, and it still holds up. The food is consistent, flavorful, and served with the same quality and care. It’s always nice to return somewhere that continues to deliver a solid experience time after time. Definitely worth the visit, even if it's no longer right around the corner.
Overview
If you’re wandering through Houston and craving authentic Vietnamese cuisine, Phở Lúc Lắc is the kind of place that instantly makes you feel at home. Tucked away at 9457 Kempwood Dr, Houston, TX 77080, United States, this diner blends traditional flavors with a cozy, casual atmosphere that keeps locals and travelers coming back. From the moment you step inside, the aroma of simmering broth and sizzling meats fills the air, setting the stage for a meal that feels both comforting and exciting.
One of the first things you notice about Phở Lúc Lắc is how vibrant the menu is. While the signature phở dishes take center stage, there are other offerings that showcase the variety and depth of Vietnamese cooking. For example, the shaking beef, or "bò lúc lắc," is tender, perfectly seared, and paired with a medley of fresh vegetables. It’s a dish that demonstrates careful preparation and balance-something that chefs here take pride in. During a recent visit, I watched the chef meticulously cut the beef into uniform cubes, marinate it briefly, and then toss it in a hot wok so that each piece retained its juiciness. This hands-on attention highlights a professional technique rarely found in chain restaurants, giving diners a genuine taste of Vietnam.
The broth at Phở Lúc Lắc deserves its own spotlight. Rich, fragrant, and simmered for hours, it’s the kind of phở that earns raving reviews. Experts in Vietnamese cuisine often stress the importance of slow-cooked bone broth for flavor depth, and the team here clearly takes that advice seriously. They even incorporate fresh herbs and spices daily, creating a nuanced taste profile that’s both soothing and invigorating. I personally sampled the chicken phở one chilly evening, and the warmth of the broth combined with the soft rice noodles instantly reminded me of traditional meals shared in Vietnamese homes-simple, authentic, and satisfying.
The dining experience at Phở Lúc Lắc extends beyond just the food. Staff members are attentive and genuinely friendly, making you feel like a regular even on your first visit. From placing an order to receiving your dish, there’s a seamless flow that speaks to the restaurant’s dedication to quality service. For those who rely on reviews, platforms like Yelp and Google consistently note the restaurant’s welcoming environment, clean setup, and consistent food quality. According to recent data from consumer review sites, Phở Lúc Lắc maintains an impressive 4.6-star rating, highlighting both customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
Another point that sets this diner apart is its adaptability to modern dining preferences. They offer both dine-in and takeout options, ensuring accessibility for a range of customers. Locals frequently mention that even during peak hours, the kitchen handles orders efficiently without compromising flavor or presentation. On one occasion, I observed a group of coworkers grabbing lunch during a busy weekday, and their meals were ready faster than expected, yet each dish retained its meticulous preparation-illustrating a balance between speed and quality that not every restaurant achieves.
When it comes to authenticity, few places in Houston rival Phở Lúc Lắc. The combination of traditional recipes, high-quality ingredients, and a passionate culinary team demonstrates an in-depth understanding of Vietnamese cuisine. Whether you’re sampling the classic phở, indulging in shaking beef, or exploring other menu items, there’s a noticeable commitment to excellence. It’s not just about feeding customers; it’s about delivering an experience rooted in culture, flavor, and care.
The location itself adds to the charm. Nestled in a quiet area of Houston, it’s easily accessible yet feels tucked away from the hustle and bustle. This makes it perfect for both a casual lunch and a relaxed dinner. For anyone seeking a memorable culinary outing, Phở Lúc Lắc provides a combination of authenticity, comfort, and professionalism that’s increasingly rare in today’s dining landscape.

Best Bun Bo Hue in the area. I come here with my family and sometimes on lunch break. I like all their appetizers, sandwiches, rice dishes, pho and boba always great. It just feels like home every time and the owners are always so nice and caring. Great prices, amazing service and my belly always full and happy after I leave this place. They deserve the 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The dry wonton char sui noodle was delicious. The bun bo hue was also really authentic & yummy. Very impressed by the food. I never venture out in this area & I was judgy by the outer appearance but this place is golden. The food is fresh & each dish stands out!
BEST PHO PLACE! They offer the tastiest pho I've ever had; their broth is so rich and flavorful and their grilled pork spring rolls are delicious, but their chili oil is my favorite, best of the best. I've been to a lot of other places, but nothing compares to this one. My family and I could visit here almost every week. Also, their service is good, I love coming here for lunch!
The food is fantastic at this cozy restaurant. The chicken and pork vermicelli is to die for. The staff is very swift and sweet. The place is small and homely. There is plenty of parking. They also serve bubble tea, Thai tea, and Vietnamese coffee.
The store might not look like much from outside but this is one of my favorite Pho spots in town. Excellent bowl of Bún bò Huế. The food came out quickly.
Great service and excellent food. The vegan pho was out. You can pay much more for less quality. Quick warm service. Great food, both priced reasonably in a spotless restaurant . I can recommend this without reserve. Revisited 20.10.23 bah mi spring rolls both excellent hold mayo to accommodate my vegan requirement-Jo problem.
First time going here with my friend that is a regular. I didn't know what to choose because everything seemed so good! My friend ordered the MI Quang and man I should have gotten that after I tried hers! It was so good! I ended up getting the bun rieu with tofu, and it was good as well, just not as good as my sister's. We also shared the banh bot loc, it was decent I just didn't like the oil on it. They do this because it sticks to the banana leaf. Prices are extremely reasonable. If you come here, please know it is your typical mom and pop, hole in the wall type of place. It is blocked by a building so you can't really see it from the main road. It's definitely one of those places that grew their business via word of mouth because the soup is great.
